Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage. It was developed by a Swedish physiologist, Henri Peter Ling at the University of Stockholm in 1812. It uses a firm but gentle pressue to improve the circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and create relaxation.
Swedish massage employs five different movements:
- long, gliding strokes
- kneading of individual muscles
- friction
- tapping
- vibration
The therapist generally uses massage oil to facilitate making long, smooth strokes over the body. Swedish massage is done with the person covered by a sheet, a technique called "draping". One part of the body uncovered, massaged, and then covered up before moving on to another part of the body.
Swedish massage is the foundation for other types of Western massage, including sports, deep tissue and aromatherapy.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. The pressure in this massage is deeper, slower and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.
Deep Tissue Massage works by physically breaking down these "adhesions" to relieve pain and restore normal movement, and nerve flow. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limit movement and cause inflammation. Where there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Unlike classic massage which is used primarily for relaxation, deep tissue focuses on a specific problems such as chronic pain, limited mobility, injury, repetitive strain, fibromyalgia, muscle tension and spasms.
Hot Stone Massage
Imagine yourself cast adrift on a sea of luxurious warmth. All the cares and stresses of the day floating away.
Hot stone massage is the ultimate in massage. Once you experience the incredible sensations that can only be attained with these specially harvested lava stones, you might never go back to a regular massage. Each set of stones is handpicked for size, shape, and weight.
This special massage uses basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat. The heated stones are place on various points of the back. Hot stone is a deeply soothing, relaxing massage. The heat helps to gently release tension in the muscles.
Chakra balancing stones are also used to help reconnect our energy body to our physical body creating deeper, whole body balance. Give it a try...you're worth it and you'll love it!!
Aroma therapy RainDrop Technique
During a raindrop session, essential oils are dispensed like little, droplets of rain from a height of about six inches above the spine and feathered along the vertebrae. Raindrop is a powerful methodology using oils to stimulate every organ, muscle, and bone at the cellular level, while boosting the various body systems, bringing the body into structural/electrical balance, enabling toxins to release from the body, mind, and emotions.
Prenatal Massage
What is prenatal massage?
Prenatal massage shares many of the goals of regular massage – to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good. But it's also tailored specifically to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies, and therapists who are trained in prenatal massage adjust their techniques accordingly.
How do you lie on the table?
Most women find it uncomfortable to lie facedown right from the start of pregnancy because of their tender, swollen breasts. And you can't lie facedown once your belly is starting to grow. On the other hand, it's not a good idea to lie flat on your back either, particularly once you're past mid-pregnancy, because the weight of your uterus puts too much pressure on the vein that returns blood from your legs to your heart.
For this reason, some prenatal massage therapists use a special table or pad with hollowed out areas to accommodate your belly, and often your breasts as well, so you can lie facedown. If only a traditional massage table is available, you can lie on your side and hug a full-length body pillow for support.
How can prenatal massage help me?
The therapeutic benefits of massage for pregnant women haven't been studied very much. There's some evidence that massage may help people who suffer from low back pain and possibly those with chronic headaches, but the studies weren't done with pregnant women. In any case, massage may decrease stress and promote relaxation, helping you cope with discomfort even if it doesn't prevent it.
Carrying a baby inside you changes your center of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, so that your pelvic joints are less stable, and changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward. Add to that the extra weight you're carrying and you've got yourself an aching lower back.
A trained prenatal massage therapist knows where a pregnant woman's sore spots are likely to be and may be able to provide some relief. But don't forget to communicate with her and tell her where you need attention.
Reflexology Foot Massage Treatment
Our feet contain specific points that connect to specific points of the body. By massaging the feet, which feels so amazing and relaxing, we are stimulating and healing organs, glands and tissue of the entire body. It is like receiving a full body massage all through the feet.
Vita-Flex
Vita-Flex means "vitality though the reflexes" and utilizes the natural bio-electric current of the body. Specific points on the feet will be stimulated to increase circulation and provoke a healing response. Similar to reflexology, your session can be customized for lungs, bronchials, colon, clearing, ears, head/brain or lymph system.

Acne Not Just a Problem for Teenagers
(ARA) – When you were a teenager, pimples were a fact of life you simply dealt with, but who would have thought they'd still be tormenting you in your 20s, 30s and beyond?
Adult acne is a problem that, according to the Web site, Acne.org, affects 25 percent of men and 50 percent of women at some time in their adult lives. Although the triggers for adult acne are unknown, it is thought to have hormonal roots. Diet, evolutionary biology, vitamin deficiency and stress may also play a factor.
No matter what the cause, in order to truly treat and prevent acne and other types of skin blemishes, you need to both clear the skin of acne and give it the ability to control oil and other root causes of skin blemishes. Unfortunately, that's easier said than done.
Acne starts deep, and most treatments on the market today only clean the surface of your skin and treat the last stage of acne - what you see as pimples, whiteheads, blackheads and other ugly blemishes. If you want to truly launch an effective battle, you need to quite literally get under the skin.
